# Day 8 #90DaysOfDevops

For Day 8, i used the linux basics for hackers ebook as recommended by @learn2cloud. i got to work immediately, installing the virtual box, kali linux and setting my environment up. This is my third time trying my hands on the book so it was easy to set up.

For the basic skill learning, i learnt how to;

1. create a small file using the *cat* command and how to append a file.
    
2. move to each directories using the *cd* command and also run the *pwd* command to verify where i am in the directory structure.
    
3. use the *whoami* command to verify which user i am logged in as.
    
4. use the *locate*, *find* and *whereis* commands to find files in directories.
    

I created new directories, new files and interacted with them trying out other commands such as:

1. *ls* - which is to list all the contents in a file or directory
    
2. *mkdir* - which is used to create a new directory
    
3. *touch* - another method to create a file.
    
4. *cp* - used to copy files
    

It’s been fun so far with linux and hopefully it stays that way.
